Trademark battle with Gerber Baby Foods forces LittleBean.com to rebrand

Little Bean; a chickpea-based, dairy-free ice-cream shop; is re-branding to Little Chickpea after a trademark tussle with the behemoth baby food brand Gerber. The website LittleBean.com now redirects to the new LittleChickpea.com. The case is pretty similar to what changed Olympic Provisions to Olympia Provisions.

The restaurateur Micah Camden said that he thought of the name Little Bean a year ago. This was before he opened his shop, so he applied for the trademark. Initially he was told that “everything looked good,” but then the trademark office informed him that he might “run into an issue with Gerber.”

Micah’s lawyers met with Gerber and were told that Gerber has discontinued the line and had no intention of doing anything with it. Micah, hence went on and opened the store. Later, he was told that though the firm has no intention of using it, the firm would like to keep it until it expires. Micah didn’t had that amount of time and opted to re-brand.

Micah, though not happy with the whole chain of events, is optimistic!
