EURid gets an extension of 5 years over .eu

The European Commission has announced the name of the registry manager of .eu TLD for the next 5 years. The commission has again chosen EURid to manage the extension. A job that it has been performing since a long time and will continue till October 2027.

.eu is the ccTLD of the European Union. The popular extension has been sponsored by the European Commission, the executive branch of the Union. These domain names are available to the members of the European Economic Area

EURid stands for European Registry for Internet Domains. This non-profit organization is a collective of two European ccTLD operators, namely: Belgium’s DNS Belgium that operates .be and Italy’s IIT-CNR that operates .it. Along with .eu, the registry also looks after it’s other forms such as .ею (Cyrillic) and .ευ (Greek).

The domain name extension also got affected by Brexit. It was uncertain what would happen to the British owners of .eu domain names. However the issue had been resolved. Read about the issue and resolve, here
