Abu Dhabi launches its own domain extension

As of 01/09/2021

Abu Dhabi, one of the thriving centres of world capitalism, has taken another step to promote its brand. The capital city of the United Arab Emirates has started its own domain name extension: .abudhabi.

Abu Dhabi Digital Authority (ADDA), on behalf of the Department of Government Support (DGS) announced the news regarding this new extension. The new top-level domain is aimed at establishing a global online brand of the city, accessible to all. The related domain names can be registered by all, including the city’s residents as well as outsiders planning to establish their business, organisations, trade, festivals, etc. in the city.

A unique extension gives a unique identity to your domain name, website and your enterprise as a whole. The .abudhabi TLD similarly will provide a unique identity to Abu Dhabi based entities. Along with it, the extension would also make the city more visible and prominent in the digital space.

You can book your .abudhabi domain here.

Owning a branded .com may have once been the rage in the early days of the internet. Because only a few top-level domain (TLD) options existed at the time, any brand seeking to develop an online presence was forced to adhere to the same domain naming conventions. As the internet exploded in use, however, traditional .com domains have been snapped up by individuals and organizations around the globe. For fast movers, this may have been a great way to secure a long-term digital brand identity, but for upstarts or established organizations seeking to expand or clarify their online presence, limited TLD options have forced many to settle for less-than-ideal domain options.
