PayMaya is a popular online payment platform in the Philippines. Voyager Innovation, the company behind PayMaya had recently achieved Unicorn status. Following this, PayMaya has also announced its rebranding.
The company has shortened its name to just Maya now. The company pointed out that the term ‘Pay’ along with their name limited them to just a payment company. Maya is much more now, with a very broad perspective. The dropping of ‘Pay’ mark was thus natural and spontaneous.
The company has also shifted their domain name. The company prior to this rebranding had a public facing website at the domain PayMaya.com. The said domain name now redirects to the new Maya.ph.
The rebranding event was accompanied by the launch of an app as well as a new bank. An all in one app providing a range of features called Maya was launched. Alongside it Maya Bank was also launched.
This is a common progression of payments platforms to eventually pivot to the formation of a new bank. Payments companies are on top of financial details of the minutest level at the grassroots level of a region. They have all the ingredients for the formation of a bank, thus the progression is completely organic.
We checked for the domain name Maya.com. There was no website at the domain name.
