Zscaler ThreatLabz has released the State of Phishing Report 2022. The Report highlights different trends related to phishing scams in the previous year.
According to the report, phishing scams increased worldwide by 23%. The US is the most phished country in the world with it attracting more than 60% of all attacks. The US is followed by Singapore, Germany and the Netherlands. However, the most remarkable jump in phishing scams has been seen in Singapore.
Singapore marked a 829% jump in the number of phishing scams. Singapore was closely followed by Russia, which witnessed a 799% jump in the number of cases. Three other countries witnessed a rise of more than 100%. These include: France (342%), United Kingdom (331%) and China (115%).
Microsoft still seems to be the favorite of the phishers. The most impersonated brand attracted more than 30% of all attacks. It was followed by Illegal Streaming platforms and Covid related scams.
Earlier we had also posted about how December 2021 was the most phished month of all time! There was also a case where ICANN presented that the number of cases of DNS Abuse have been actually falling. This was clearly in contradiction of the many of the reports presented by different institutes, organizations and firms.
What does this contradiction of opinion mean? Perhaps, it can possibly be seen as a diplomatic blanket to hide the mess of online scams. Even if it is so, we hope that measures to counter this and new programs to provide enhanced security are also discussed under that blanket of protection.
