New year has brought some very exciting news for the domain name industry. A new Top-level domain (TLD) has been launched in India. This new TLD has been named .भ.
.भ represents the first letter of the term, Bharat, in the Devanagari script. Bharat is another name for the country of India in Devanagari. These new domain names have been launched by a Gurugram based start-up called ‘Agaamin’.
Although, currently only .भ are being assigned right now, this is going to expand. The first letter of ‘Bharat’ would also be released in other Indian languages such as Gujarati, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, etc. Emojis and Surnames would also be available under .भ after some time.
One of the contrasting features of this extension is that it is a smart name. This extension, instead of the usual ICANN, is based on Handshake. Thus, this domain name could be your unique ID in the decentralised web as well.
