This .cn domain name was behind the Buffalo Shooter

The Buffalo shooting has shocked the world. The unending cases of gun violence in the US can’t be ignored anymore. And neither can the association of the far right with such incidents.

The perpetrator of this tragedy had earlier posted a long plan of the crime before committing it. In this document the shooter had alleged being heavily influenced by a website at a .cn domain.

The domain name in question here was DailyStormer.cn. The association of a .cn domain name in such an incident made people suspicious regarding the role of China in this. People started wondering if China was aiding the far right fringe elements to conduct violent attacks in the US.

However the domain name was registered through a proxy company called Naisi Zhihui Technology. The proxy company presented that it wasn’t aware of the content at the said domain name. The Chinese government does not monitor content on every .cn  domain name.

The Daily Stormer does not have to get its content reviewed by any Chinese authorities as its IP address is not based in China but somewhere else. However, after the incident China Internet Network Information Center (CNNIC) has stopped the domain name.

The domain name as of now is unreachable.

The staff from the China Internet Network Information Center (CNNIC) told the Global Times on Tuesday that the domain name of the neo-Nazi website had indeed been shut down. As for some people reporting that the site is still accessible, the staff said it may be due to DNS caching.
