Politics over GeorgeFloyd.com

It’s been 2 years since the death of George Floyd, that gripped the attention of the whole world and gave rise to the Black Lives Matter movement. The whole world was shocked at the murder of a Black man at the hands of brutal Police violence. Since then, the topic has been a heavy part of political and social discourse.

However, the repercussions of the George Floyd incident can be perceived in the Domain Name space as well. As soon as the incident took place, someone registered the domain name GeorgeFloyd.com. The registrant claimed to donate a part of her earnings to the George Floyd foundation.

However, many people thought that the registrant has been making money out of a deeply tragic incident by using this name. The registrant claimed that the purpose of GeorgeFloyd.com was to provide lifelong support to the relatives of the diseased man.

This might seem as such on the superficial levels but at a much deeper level something more important is happening. The owner of the domain name was in trouble when she started expressing her dissatisfaction towards the extreme trans movement currently ongoing.

She was later hounded by the far left ideologists, which claimed that instead of supporting the family, she was just using the domain name as a business platform. Even when she did actually pay to the George Floyd foundation. Her indirect attacks on far left trans soldiers were falsely interpreted as an attack on the black people as well.

Following the attacks on social media, the owner of the domain changed her Twitter name from @GeorgeFloyd_com to @JAGJointAuthors. The website at the disputed domain name has also not been working currently. It results in a white page with 404 written on top.

The politicization of GeorgeFloyd.com is a disappointing development in the aftermath of such a tragic and senseless loss of life. It is important to recognize that George Floyd’s death was a profound tragedy that should not be used as a tool for political gain or to advance any particular agenda. Instead, we should focus on honoring George Floyd’s memory by promoting unity and seeking justice for those who have suffered from police brutality and systemic racism. While it is understandable that different groups may have differing opinions on the best ways to achieve these goals, it is essential to approach this issue with empathy, respect, and a commitment to finding common ground. Ultimately, our collective efforts should be aimed at creating a more just and equitable society for all.
