How was a horror movie made on Winnie the Pooh?

The Internet is a weird place. Everyday you find things that you have never even imagined in your dreams. However, recently the trailer of a movie exceeded my already stressed weirdness threshold levels. Interestingly the movie was inspired from an adorable cartoon character: Winnie the Pooh.

Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey is an upcoming movie. The movie’s story and characters are making the headlines. The movie features characters from A A Milne’s stories, Winnie the Pooh and Piglet. However, the movie is making headlines because of the excessive violence shown in the movie. The movie is a slasher film with most probably the killers adorning the outfits of popular characters.

A question arises as to how were the makers of the movie able to do so? Winnie the Pooh and related characters are known trademarks of Disney. We have all grown up watching Disney’s cartoons depicting these characters. The answer behind this is something that happened in January this year.

According to the laws, the work of any corporate entity can’t remain exclusively with them for all of eternity. After 95 years of publication or 120 years of creation, whichever precedes, the work enters into the public domain. A A Milne’s book about the adorable bear appeared in 1926 while a poem mentioning the same came in 1924. Both of them are older than 95 years now. Thus in January, Winnie the Pooh entered the Public Domain. We posted about it as well, you can read our report here.

Although Disney has rights over the cartoons produced by it in relation with Winnie the Pooh, the rights to Winnie the Pooh as a fictional character is available to all. Owing to these rights, the creators of Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey were able to make it. From the trailers it is clear that the movie is going to be a gory bloodbath.

However, what adds to the horror is the odd placement of once favorite childhood characters.

Are you going to watch this slasher movie? Answer us in the comments.
