Google launches a new TLD

Google has just launched a new TLD. Yes, the extension .day is now available. The extension aims to bring different organisations, businesses and individuals together to a platform where they can present their cause, promote their brand and bring attention to their mission.

Many of the domain names have already been taken. Domain Names related to certain certain Causes are taken by different organisations such as Wildlife.day is taken by World Wildlife Fund (WWF), Birth.day is taken by Save the Children foundation while MLK.day is taken by The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP). Domains names representing certain Brands have also been taken. Such as Nutella.day is taken by Nutella, Valentines.day is taken by Florists’ Transworld Delivery (FTD) and Creator.day by Zazzle. Domain names related to popular festivals are also taken by different Communities such as Easter.day is redirected to Bible.com while Diwali.day points to the official website of Coalition of Hindus of North America (CoHNA). You can also avail personalised names, well suited for creators such as one Felicia.day.

The domain names would be available from Feb 1 without any additional costs. Before that day domain names can be availed after paying an extra fee. You can read more about the launch, in detail here.
