Delhi High court has suspended a counterfeiting domain name that was trying to fraud the customers by publishing fake job opportunities. The domain name was trying to dupe the Indiamart brand name.
Indiamart is a popular Business to Business company with 60% market share in India. The primary domain of Indiamart is Indiamart.com with other related domain names registered as well, such as Indiamart.co.in, Indiamart.ind.in, Indiamart.net.in, etc. Fraudster domain name that was used to impersonate Indiamart was India-mart.co.
The domain name was promising Work from home jobs under ‘Indiamart’s Data Entry Project’. Indiamart’s brand and the very similar domain name made it hard for victims to distinguish the fake from real.
The court found that the domain name was undoubtedly indulging in violation of the Plaintiff’s trademarks. The court asked GoDaddy to suspend the domain name in question here.
Along with this, the Court also sought from GoDaddy banking information of the people involved and whether they had requested for a privacy protect feature. The Court then directed the Police to seize the bank accounts related to the accused.
