Namecheap has published its annual Domain Insights and Trends Report. The 2021 report is based on data collected from the previous 12 months, and gives an overview of the performance of different Top-level domains (TLDs).
The report tells us about the most popular TLDs in the world. There are no surprises at the top spot. .com is still the champion among the TLDs and has maintained its spot in 2021 also. In the top 5, .com is followed by .xyz, .net, .club and .me respectively.
When compared with the top 10 TLDs of 2020, there are some changes as well. While the top spot remained fixed for .com, TLDs such as .club, .site and .info moved down 1, 6 and 2 places respectively. At the same time extensions like .net, .org and .online moved up by 2, 3 and 1 places respectively.
Amongst the top 10 TLDs list, a new entrant was also found: .shop. .shop wasn’t among the top 10 in 2020. However, .icu was unable to make it to the top 10 cut in 2021, as it did in 2020.
