How Republic of Srpska’s Websites Ended Up in Serbia: Cyber Enigma Unveiled

In a puzzling turn of events, the websites of the Government of the Republic of Srpska (RS) disappeared from the internet, only to reemerge on Serbian domains. This digital vanishing act left many scratching their heads, and it raises questions about the origins of the outage and the implications it carries.

Disappearing Act

For seven days, the official websites of the Republic of Srpska were nowhere to be found in the vast expanse of the internet. This included not only the Government of RS but also the Ministry of Internal Affairs of RS. Even the Inspectorate of the Government of RS fell victim to this unexplained downtime. However, on November 1st, they all made a triumphant return, but not on their original domains.

New Domains

The Government of RS’s online presence can now be accessed on the domain “rs,” while the page “predsjednikrs.net” resurfaced on “predsjednikrs.rs.” But what’s perhaps the most intriguing is the new domain “vladars.rs.” This domain is registered in Belgrade, under the auspices of the company Hosting Mania, which specializes in web-hosting services.

Domain Mystery

What adds to the enigma is that “vladars.rs” was purchased by Prointer ITSS, a company based in Banja Luka, on October 26th. However, when questioned about their involvement, Prointer ITSS remained tight-lipped, stating that they lacked complete information regarding the matter.

Hosting Shenanigans

Delving deeper into the situation, a check on Hostingchecker revealed that the hosting server for “vladars.rs” is none other than Telekom Srpske, a telecommunications operator headquartered in Banja Luka and owned by Telekom Srbije.

Prointer ITSS and RS Government

Prointer ITSS has had an interesting history with the Government of RS since the beginning of 2022. Records in the Register of Public Procurement of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) show that the company has entered into several contracts with the RS government. This connection raises further questions about the nature of their involvement in the website migration.

Dodik’s Connection

Adding another layer of intrigue, Milorad Dodik, the President of the RS, confirmed that his son, Igor Dodik, has collaborated with Prointer. This familial connection adds a hint of complexity to the situation.

The “American” Twist

According to RS Prime Minister Radovan Viskovic, the abrupt website outages were the work of the Americans. Viskovic, who has been under US sanctions since July for alleged threats to the Dayton Peace Agreement and the sovereignty of Bosnia and Herzegovina, attributed the downtime to American actions.

However, the US Ministry of Finance has remained mum on the issue, failing to respond to inquiries regarding the alleged “cancellation of pages.”

Unraveling the Mystery

The sudden disappearance and reappearance of Republic of Srpska’s official websites on Serbian domains have left many baffled. The exact reasons behind this digital migration remain shrouded in mystery, with questions surrounding the involvement of Prointer ITSS and the potential implications of the connection to the RS government. As the dust settles, more answers may emerge, shedding light on this peculiar internet saga.
