4.5 Million New Domain Registrations In The First Quarter Of 2020

4.5 new domain names have entered the domain name family in the first quarter of 2020, reported Verisign in its Domain Name Industry Brief. The sum total of all domain names reached a figure of 366.8 Million, an increase of 1.2%. The annual rate of increase stands at 4.2%.

An interesting fact that surfaced from the report was that the total number of ccTLDs stood at 157.4 Million. A figure 0.2 Million or 0.1% shorter than what was reported at the fourth quarter of 2019. The country specific domains increased by 0.6 Million domain name registrations or 0.4%, year by year. Top 10 ccTLDs are .tk, .cn, .de, .uk, .nl, .ru, .br, .eu, .fr and .it.

.com and .net domains stood at a combined 160.7 Million domains with .com contributing 147.3 Million of it. With a 1.1% increase, .com and .net added  another 1.8 Million new domains in the first quarter of 2020. Their yearly increase percentage is 3.8%.
