Restena Foundation, the administrator of .lu domain names has done something that had been kept on hold since 2000. It has started the auctioning of premium one and two character .lu domain names.
Although all the domain names were available in the beginning. One and two character domain names were made unavailable in 2000. The reasons cited were software and security concerns. However, Restena Foundation is now looking to change things.
The domain names were initially made available exclusively to Registered Trademarks. This process continued till October 30. The auction of domain names has begun, which will continue till December 14. After that the domain names will be made generally available to all.
.lu is the ccTLD of Luxembourg. The extension crossed 100,000 domain names registrations in June last year. With a 75% market share, the majority of the names belong to the businesses. Also this extension has a very strong home presence with 50% of the holders being residents of Luxembourg. So, this extension has a corporate Luxembourgian appeal to it.
One and two character domain names are very rare and very valuable. Small domain names attract so much of attention because of their adaptability to a very wide sphere of applications. Small names are prospect acronyms for a large number of options. Hence the rush for these tiny names.
What is even more interesting is that many of the domain names still don’t have a single bid on it. Although most bids come during the end of auction, this still is a golden opportunity. So what are you waiting for? Get your one and two character .lu domain name now!
